The Media Law Forum (MLF) is pleased to announce that it has been admitted into the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)’s official NGO partnership system with consultative status.
The decision was communicated through an official letter from UNESCO dated 2 September 2026. UNESCO has also warmly welcomed MLF to the community of its official NGO partners.
This new partnership provides an important framework for continued cooperation between UNESCO and the Media Law Forum in areas including freedom of expression, media freedom, access to information, journalist safety, legal literacy for media professionals, policy reform, and digital governance.
The partnership creates opportunities for MLF to further strengthen its existing work in Sri Lanka and South Asia, while exploring new areas of cooperation with UNESCO and its relevant offices and units.
As part of the next steps, MLF will provide UNESCO with its official organizational contact point and designate contact persons for future institutional communication and coordination.
The Media Law Forum looks forward to a fruitful and enduring partnership with UNESCO and to contributing further to the promotion and protection of media freedom, freedom of expression, and digital rights.
