Workshop on Digital Rights Awareness and Collaborative Strategies for Media and Legal Professionals

On 13 March 2026, the Media Law Forum conducted a Sinhala-language workshop in Rathnapura on “Digital Rights Awareness and Collaborative Strategies for Media and Legal Professionals: Addressing Misinformation, Disinformation and Malinformation in the Digital Space.” The session brought together journalists and lawyers to discuss online safety, responsible communication, and safeguarding digital rights.

The workshop highlighted the impact of harmful content on media freedom, public trust, and the rule of law, emphasizing the responsibilities of media and legal professionals in identifying, preventing, and addressing misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation ethically.

Participants engaged with expert resource persons, including veteran journalist Shan Vijethunga and Dr. Viranjana Herath, sharing experiences and reflecting on emerging challenges in the digital environment. The session enhanced practical knowledge, skills, and professional networks for responsible digital engagement.

The workshop was supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Colombo, Sri Lanka, with appreciation to all resource persons and participants for their contributions.
