Media Law Forum Hosts Strategic Discussion on Sri Lanka’s Media Laws

The Media Law Forum recently convened a high-level closed-door dialogue with key legal and media stakeholders to reflect on the future direction of media law in Sri Lanka. The event brought together legal professionals, media advocates, and policy experts for an in-depth conversation on the changing media landscape and the need for legal reform.

A highlight of the event was the contribution of Toby Mendel, Executive Director of the Centre for Law and Democracy, who shared valuable international perspectives on media law reform, institutional resilience, and rights-based approaches to regulation. His insights helped frame a broader understanding of Sri Lanka’s current position and future possibilities.

This dialogue provided strategic clarity on key focus areas for the Media Law Forum—expanding legal support networks. The Forum remains committed to championing legal standards that protect free expression and support a vibrant, independent media sector in Sri Lanka.
