On 26 January 2026, the Media Law Forum organized a workshop titled “Digital Rights Awareness and Collaborative Strategies for Media and Legal Professionals: Addressing Misinformation, Disinformation and Malinformation in the Digital Space” in Trincomalee. The workshop, conducted in Tamil, brought together journalists and lawyers to discuss critical issues related to digital rights, online safety, and responsible engagement in the digital space.
The programme focused on enhancing awareness of misinformation, disinformation and malinformation, and examined how these challenges impact media freedom, public trust, and the rule of law in the digital environment. Emphasis was placed on the role of media and legal professionals in identifying, preventing and responding to harmful content while safeguarding digital rights.
Resource persons Dr. Viranjana Herath and Mr. Benislos Thushan (Attorney-at-Law) shared their expertise on legal frameworks, ethical journalism, digital rights protections, and practical strategies to strengthen collaboration between media practitioners and lawyers. Participants actively engaged in group discussions and interactive sessions, sharing experiences, identifying emerging challenges in the digital space, and proposing solutions to counter information disorder.
The workshop concluded successfully, equipping participants with enhanced knowledge, practical tools, and strengthened professional networks to promote digital rights awareness and responsible communication online.
