Media Law Forum Strengthens Provincial Media Capacity on Digital Election Reporting
The Media Law Forum continued its regional outreach by hosting a Sinhala-language information session in Kandy on January 9, 2026, aimed at enhancing the professional skills of provincial media practitioners.
The workshop focused on the growing challenges of election reporting in the digital era, emphasizing the critical role of provincial media in promoting transparency, accountability, and public trust during electoral processes.
The session brought together provincial reporters and digital media professionals, creating a platform to discuss emerging trends, risks, and responsibilities associated with digital journalism in an increasingly fast-paced and polarized environment.
Facilitated by experts from the Media Law Forum, the programme examined key issues such as monitoring campaign finance and political advertising on social media, as well as the ethical use of generative AI in news production. Participants stressed the importance of credibility, impartiality, and accuracy—especially during election periods.
Co-funded by the European Union and conducted in partnership with Democracy Reporting International (DRI) and Factum, the initiative forms part of the Media Law Forum’s ongoing efforts to promote digital media integrity and strengthen democratic values across Sri Lanka’s regions.
