MLF Conducts Digital Election Reporting information session for Sabaragamuwa Media Actors

Following the local government elections, the Media Law Forum conducted a targeted information session on June 2, 2025, in Rathnapura, aimed at strengthening ethical media practices in Sri Lanka’s Sabaragamuwa Province. The main objective of the session was to enhance election reporting in the digital era, equipping provincial media actors with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the evolving digital landscape.

The session brought together journalists, digital content creators, and social media influencers from a wide range of respected media outlets, including ITN, ITN FM, Aruna Web, Horu, Divaina, Lankadeepa, Thinakaran, TV Derana, and Wijaya Newspaper.

Expert facilitators from the Media Law Forum led discussions on maintaining independent, ethical, and accurate journalism, particularly in the context of election coverage. The session also introduced advanced practices for monitoring campaign finance and political advertising on social media—an increasingly vital area in the digital information space. Furthermore, participants explored the responsible use of generative AI in digital newsrooms, emphasizing the need to uphold credibility and transparency in emerging content formats.

This initiative was funded by the European Union, in collaboration with Democracy Reporting International (DRI) and Factum, as part of the Media Law Forum’s broader mission to support digital media integrity and democratic discourse throughout Sri Lanka.
