On April 28, 2025, the Media Law Forum conducted a targeted information session for Neth FM, a leading Sinhala-language radio broadcaster known for its diverse programming, including news, current affairs, religious content, and talk shows. Recognizing Neth FM’s expanding presence across digital platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and its website news portal, the session focused on the unique regulatory and ethical challenges faced by audio-first media during the upcoming 2025 local government elections.
The discussion provided actionable guidance on integrating the revised election media guidelines into live and pre-recorded radio segments, with a special emphasis on ensuring compliance in news reporting and political discourse. Resource persons also addressed the emerging role of generative AI in content production, offering strategies for responsible use and verification of AI-generated material across radio and digital platforms.
In addition, the Media Law Forum introduced scenario-based exercises tailored for radio and digital teams, equipping them to identify election-period misinformation, subtle hate speech, and disinformation that may arise in user-generated content and public call-ins. This session is part of a broader initiative funded by the European Union, implemented in partnership with DRI (Democracy Reporting International) and Factum, to reinforce ethical election reporting and digital resilience across Sri Lanka’s media landscape.
