Continuing its series of regional outreach efforts, the Media Law Forum held an information session in Matara on June 4, 2025, focused on strengthening the capacity of media professionals in the Southern Province. The session centered on the evolving challenges of election reporting in the digital era, emphasizing the role of provincial media in promoting transparent and accountable journalism during electoral processes.
Participants included provincial reporters and digital media actors from the Southern region, representing both traditional and online platforms. The session provided a space for meaningful dialogue on emerging trends, risks, and responsibilities in digital journalism.
Led by expert facilitators from the Media Law Forum, the workshop covered key topics such as monitoring campaign finance and political advertising on social media and ensuring ethical use of generative AI in digital content production. Discussions highlighted the importance of maintaining credibility, impartiality, and accuracy in fast-paced and often polarized digital environments, especially during election periods.
This initiative, funded by the European Union and conducted in collaboration with Democracy Reporting International (DRI) and Factum, is part of the Media Law Forum’s ongoing commitment to fostering digital media integrity and supporting democratic values across Sri Lanka’s regions.
