The Media Law Forum continued its regional outreach by hosting an information session in Batticaloa on 1 November 2025, delivered in Tamil, specifically aimed at strengthening the skills of Tamil media professionals in the Eastern Province. The workshop focused on the growing challenges of election reporting in the digital era, highlighting the crucial role of provincial media in promoting transparent and accountable journalism during electoral processes.
The session brought together Tamil provincial reporters and digital media practitioners, providing an opportunity to discuss emerging trends, risks, and responsibilities in digital journalism.
Facilitated by experts from the Media Law Forum, the workshop explored topics such as monitoring campaign finance and political advertising on social media and ethical use of generative AI in content production. Participants emphasized the importance of credibility, impartiality, and accuracy in fast-moving and often polarized digital environments, especially during elections.
Co-Funded by the European Union and conducted in partnership with Democracy Reporting International (DRI) and Factum, this initiative forms part of the Media Law Forum’s ongoing efforts to support digital media integrity and strengthen democratic values across Sri Lanka’s regions.
