Media Law Forum Conducts Digital Election Reporting Session for SLRC Journalists

Recognizing the critical role of responsible journalism in safeguarding electoral integrity in the digital era, the Media Law Forum (MLF) conducted an information session on October 14, 2025, at the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) newsroom. The session focused on strengthening ethical standards in election coverage and enhancing the capacity of television journalists and digital content producers to navigate evolving digital platforms during election periods.

The program brought together reporters, newsroom editors, and digital content creators for an engaging discussion on the responsibilities of journalists in ensuring accurate, fair, and impartial election reporting. Facilitators from MLF guided participants through identifying and countering disinformation, assessing political advertisements, and addressing hate speech on television and social media platforms.

A key segment of the session examined the responsible use of generative AI in newsrooms, emphasizing the importance of maintaining transparency, credibility, and professionalism in digital content creation.

This initiative—co-funded by the European Commission and implemented in collaboration with Democracy Reporting International (DRI) and Factum—reflects MLF’s continued commitment to promoting digital media integrity and upholding democratic values throughout Sri Lanka.
